Have you ever donated blood or plasma? Do you have a memorable experience?
I was wondering about other people experiences with donating. I just donated blood for the first time.. and I'm going to be donating plasma soon so I can pay for my France trip. I recently donated blood.. and I had a memorable first experience. After the nurse pulled the needle out and asked me to lift my arm and apply pressure.. I did. I also looked away so I could talk to a friend who was doing doubles. When I looked back.. my entire arm was covered in blood. And I was definitely apply pressure.. lol. I actually became the topic of discussion in many classes I'm not even in! I was talked about all day at school!! Haha, I'm a junior too. Last time I tried to donate.. I couldn't because I didn't have high enough iron. And this time.. the bleeding thing. But I definitely liked it. I'm still light headed though.

when i found out my grandmother had leukemia and blood transfusions were pretty much keeping her alive and able to have a decent quality of life, donating blood became super important to me. i have one memorable story though... on sept 11 2001 my roommate and i sat stunned watching the news. we both had tears streaming down our faces. we felt helpless and wanted to do our part however we could. i looked at her and said "they are going to need blood" we called immediately and made appointments to go give blood that day. i remember the nurse on the other end did not know what was going on. she seemed confused. it wasn't long after the phone call that they started asking people to go donate blood. by the time we went in to donate, the blood center was packed and news crews were there. we all sat huddled for hours waiting our turns to do this one small thing. i remember when it was finally my turn i was surprised to see they had brought TVs in so those donating could keep watching what was happening in new york. as my bag started to fill up with my blood i heard over the TV this beeping coming from the wreckage. my roommate and i wondered what the eerie sound was. it was later we learned it was coming from the firefighters lost heroically in the wreckage. the whole day. the whole experienced is carved deeply into my heart. i've given blood many times before and since. but never have i felt so connected as one human to the rest of humanity. giving blood and plasma is something very selfless and important. it is something to be proud of. i hope you have a blast in france!!!! what a great way to make some money and do something that does save other peoples lives.
