Which short story idea is better?
It has to be under 1500 words. 1. An old lady and an eighteen year old guy meet at a nursing home when the boy is doing community service to pay for something bad he did. He has a kid and his dreams of being a pilot are put on the back burner when he realizes that he must get a factory-level job in order to pay for his child. He feels hopeless. The old woman feel hopeless because her life is nearly over and she has no one. When she was younger, she too had a kid at a young age. They realize how much they have in common and become best friends, giving each other the strength they need to go on. 2. A journalist, Charlotte, from Cleveland, Ohio is working on an assignment in Sicily, Italy when she meets a man, Pascal, who works for the mafia. He offers her $10,000 dollars if she agrees to smuggle his drugs into France. She attempts to do so, but she is stopped before she even gets on the plane, though they haven't found the drugs yet. Pascal, being the con artist he is and having the connections he does, does his best to help himself and the journalist get out of their predicament before too much damage is done. Pascal and Charlotte fall in love somewhere in between. What do you think?? Which sounds more interesting?

I really like the idea of number two. It reminds me a lot of Locked Up Aboard which was a great series. I suggest you look into those real life stories and incorporate the obstacles they faced into your story. I'd really like a copy of either one, though :)
2 :
They both have a lot of potential. I think the student should evaluate what the teacher might like the best, or which follow-up would get you the best grade (if it is for a grade). Otherwise go with the one you like best.

What Countries in Europe is much like Latin America when it comes to taking care of the elderly
What Countries in Europe is much like Latin America when it comes to taking care of the elderly?
I'm referring that you see Hispanic people in Latin America and it's part of culture when someone in the family is old unable to care him/herself.Instead of dumping them to a nursing home one of the grown kids of the elderly parent/s takes turn caring for them at their own house. Also the Hispanic culture sees it as a disgrace to dump them in a nursing home like people here in America do it. So my question is What central and eastern European countries do the same and view it the same as Latin Americans?Would the following countries include France, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia, Poland, Czech, Finland, Croatia, Ukraine? I know that it's the same with Southern European countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece. Also that northern European countries such as United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, are just about or the same as Americans. I keep wondering why does it seem that non white i.e Africans, Asians, Native Americans are the same way when it comes to caring for an elderly.

Africans normally don't live that long. They usually die of AIDS, tribe wars, genocide, and other diseases before the age of 35.
2 :
I Think in Us (Latinos) Its Mainly on Like a Catholic (Karma) We Believe our Elders are very Important and Everyone knows they don't want to be treated like baby's but do not want to be abandoned into a place where they might take care of them but the Love Isn't there... Its Like the Saying.. " Treat Others the Way You Would Like to Be treated" Just My Opinion...
3 :
As an Italian.. I know that Croations, Serbians and Romanians (Just any Eastern Euro country) are VERY family orientated and look after their elderly Its an embarassment to send your parents to a retirement home in our culture
4 :
Basque and Turkey.
5 :
I would say Spain. By the way, Finland is in northern Europe.
