Yes, be POSITIVE! You can do anything you put your mind too. I am 23 and just went back to school. I would start looking up colleges online. I know that Portland Community College is a GREAT place to start. Also Anthem College does nursing and what not. You should look into the both of them and see what they have to offer you! Good luck, I know you can do it.... :)

DO NOT marry him. I've been in a similar position like this, and don't change your life to fit around a relationship, because a strong relationship will follow with what you want to do with your life. If he wants to get married tell him to wait until after college. I dropped out of college once because a guy wanted to get married and live together, and have a family, and I still remember it as the biggest mistake I've ever made. Please please please don't make the mistake I made, it will be nothing but suffering and misery. The hardest part is the year comes around when you SHOULD have graduated, and the realization that you have nothing. It's humiliating, depressing, embarrassing, just everything bad put into one. I know you don't know me but please oh please don't do that. I'm literally begging you. you don't want to put yourself through what I've already been through.

Well if u feel tht u love him but at the same time u don’t find him caring for ur interests then u need to make ur feelings meet the reality of his feelings. All u shud do as per my opinion is to speak in a calm but definite manner to him about ur feelings n preferences & also making him understand the need for mutual undrstndng. If he is a guy for u then he shud b willing to love u emotionally aswell. U shud keep a tag on ur relationship from now itself so tht u don’t regret later, after all life is more than the flowery kind of love tht seems in the beginning. There’s a saying I have heard of- Don’t marry the person whom u love but rather marry the person who loves u (n bcos of this u shud also start loving him as he loves u)

Your age difference causes there to be a difference in your view of the immediate future. Your boyfriend is older and thus has a sense of urgency to begin his adult life. While you on the other hand feel now is a time for you to secure a way to make a living in your adult life. The question is what is your motivation? Do you truly love this man and want to spend the rest of your life with him? If so, there should be no sacrifice to great. On the other hand he must understand that you are young and feel the need to further yourself in life, if he truly loves you. If you do not have the love for this man that makes you want to be with him for life, then you should not waste his time or yours and move on with your goals. After all, what is the point of a relationship, if it has no hope for marriage? There are opportunities in many places, love is the greatest of them all. Love is not a conditional commitment, only given if your partner makes the decisions you see as right. In closing, do what your conscience tells you is right, aside from thoughts of your own personal gain. You will be happy without guilt in the end, if you choose to do what you know is right.

Guys, please help me translate the following into french

Guys, please help me translate the following into french?
Guys, please help me translate the following into french.. GOOGLE TRANSLATE isn't very helpful. It just mixes the words and confuses me.. i hope you guys can help me... my aunt is french speaking. she is based in france... she doesn't know how to speak english.. she only knows french.. please help me... this is only chance to tell her what i want her to know... Dear Aunt, How are you and aunt anne? I hope you have adjusted right now. Until now it is so painful just to think that grandmother is gone. Although I was not the favored one, I know she loved me because I felt it... I will never forget what she has done to me and to my family, what she taught us, the good values she instilled in our lives, how caring and loving friend, daughter, sister, mother and grandmother she was. All her good memories will be in our hearts forever... I looked up to her all my life. I will surely miss her. Until now I can believe she is dead, that she cannot be with me, with us anymore. It was really sudden. I thought she was going to reach the age of 100.. but I guess God has other plan. It all happened for a reason. I'm just sad because did not have the chance to be with her for longer time and because I was not able to tell her how much I love her, how much I appreciate her. But I realized we all have to move on because in that way, she will be at peace, she will be happy in heaven.. Now she is together with Abuelito, Tito Joey, Tito Butch and Tito Chichirico.. I believe she has a special place in heaven because she did very well here on earth when she was here. She treated her neighbors fairly. She never lost her faith in God that is why she really has a special part in God's heart.. Let us just hope that Abuelita is watching over us, guiding us and praying for us.. I wrote to you because I want you to know how I feel right now.. And I just want to thank you for giving me hope (for sending me back to school) to have a better future. Right now, I feel so blessed knowing that someday I can have a better life. Thank you again. Please tell Tita Trini that I love her so much. For me, she is still my mother.. I just hope she feels the same way.. Regarding to my schooling next June, I have decided to take up nursing to UERM (it is so far one of the best nursing schools in manila). I realized that my previous course was not really my thing.. For now, I need to have money. I am being practical. If I take up nursing, a lot of job awaits me abroad. I realized that if I really want to study that ''Dream course'', might as well, take it up abroad because it is also my dream to study there. So it is final. I am taking up nursing.. As of now I still find the right school. It is too late to try to take an entrance examination in UST and UP Manila. Usually they are giving the examination on the month of June, July and August. How bad! they are rank one and two in the best nursing schools in the philippines.. Aunts, I do not want you to be disappointed and I do not want to waste this great opportunity that you are going to give me.. So I promise that I will do my best and I will make sure that in 4 to 5 years, we will all be together there in France.. I am so excited!!

Je vais sûrement me manquer.

Could you check my writing in English(travel)

Could you check my writing in English(travel)?
I am a student learning English. I just wrote something to practice English. Could you check if there are some awkward expressions? I am grateful to you. When I went to France, I stayed at B&B run by the immigrant from my country. Owners were married couple who immigrated to France 5 years ago. What bothered me is that the male owner/host was extremely hostile to my country-his ex-country and expressed his feelings without screening. We had breakfast together for 5 days and then he always talked about how horrible my country was and how shameful it was to live there. It sounded like we (including other quests) were foolish not to leave it. I wanted to be nice, so I just smiled and at times nodded trying to understand his stance. However, he frequently crossed the line. He said that my country people are too selfish and they abandon their parents on street. Plus, he said that nurses at nursing home tried to kill their patients because they didn't like to care for them and their adult children wanted it. (I have worked as a nurse at a nursing home. In my experience, nothing could be further from the truth.) When he asked me how my trip was, I said "Paris is fabulous, but I came here without my husband because he could not get such a long holiday, so I am a little bit sorry about it. Whenever I see good things, they just remind me of him." He explicitly sneered, saying "What a useless feeling! You will fight him once you see his face." I was speechless because he didn't know anything about me or my husband. Even when I said to my friends that I missed my husband, he laughed at me behind me, talking to himself "You will hate him anyway." He kept talking to guests how good Paris is. He said everything is almost free. I asked "Where does the government get such money?" He answered "Because France is a developed country unlike your country." I just shut my mouth.

(I would have said: "because - unlike your country - France is a developed country") You have no problems with English; I wish my French was like that.

Chance my friend for UPenn Early Decision pleasee

Chance my friend for UPenn Early Decision pleasee?
My friend is a junior in high school and he is was just wondering if he has any shot at getting into his dream school. Here are his stats: High school WGPA: 3.4 ( Its extremely bad and he is worried that this will kill his chances) SAT I : 2300 + SAT II : Math II - 700 + Physics - 700+ Captain of the Debate team at his school (Ranked in the top ten debaters in the State) Has been playing the violin for 8 years. Performed in Belgium and France. Also performed in the Lincoln Center Volunteers at Nursing Home: 150 hours + Volunteers at Hospital: 100 hours + Did a research project with an engineering professor at Auburn University (got his recommendation) He is expecting to have great recommendations from his teachers and a recommendation from a congressman. And his uncle went to UPenn if that counts for anything. He wants to apply to CAS. Because he thinks he'll have no chance if he applies for engineering. Ethnicity : Indian Male Please give some feedback on what u think his chances are. And give him some advice. Thanks in advance Additional info: Apparently one of the top students in his grade is also applying and her gpa is wayyy better than his. And she has tons of ECs. and she has a ton of legacy at Penn. Shes also applying ED from his school. Will this ruin his chances? He also has Columbia ED or Cornell ED in mind. Do u think he has a shot at one of those?

Frankly, he's right to be worried about his GPA, especially if he hasn't been taking the toughest courses available to him (it's still not good if he has, but it does balance things out a little bit). He needs to do everything in his power to get that up the first half of senior year. And unless the congressman knows him personally, I wouldn't count on that recommendation making much of a difference. Instead, he should probably talk to his professor buddy at Auburn and see if he knows anyone at Penn who can put in a good word for him, 'cause a champion on the inside would help. Other than that, all he can really do is put together the most compelling application possible, and make sure he's got some backups he likes lined up just in case. And no, I don't think his chances are any better at Cornell or Columbia. (In fact, they're probably worse at Columbia; they tend to care more about stats.)

Throwing my own hens night/bridal shower

Throwing my own hens night/bridal shower?
My maid of honour will be in France from a month and a half until two days before my wedding. My bridesmaid is a nurse and is usually very busy with work, so I wouldn't expect her to organise it... but is it wrong to do your own bridal shower or whatever? And what's the difference between the hens night and bridal shower? They are my only two close friends. I don't really have any other friends. I just wanted a quiet night in with my two closest friends, without my son. But they won't even be there. :(

Its tacky to host any event in your own honor, whether its a bridal shower or a birthday party. The hens night is what we call a "bachelorette party" here in the U.S., its a fun night for the bride, her bridesmaids and some close friends. It could be something as simple as dinner, drinks and some games with a friends house, or going for a night out on the town. Its casual, relaxed and not a gift giving event. The bridal shower is a gift giving event, its designed to "shower" the honoree(s) with gifts of items they will need to establish their new home together. Its tacky for both of these to be thrown or hosted by the person they are for, immediate family or a parent. Though, I've been to many bridal showers who were hosted by a mom or sister. Sometimes the sister is the MOH so its natural she would plan this. If you MOH is going to be unavailable, then someone else would host this. I was in a wedding that was in another state and I helped to plan & pay for the bridal shower that I didn't attend. She can still plan it and not attend. The costs are usually split amongst your MOH & bridesmaids. No bride is entitled to or owed any pre-wedding events such as a hens night, stag and doe party (canada), bachelorette party, bridal shower, engagement party. If there is nobody to throw you one - then you go without one, and its always at their offering never at your asking. Throwing or hosting your own is like sending an invite "Be honored to be invited to my party that I'm throwing for me, in honor of me" it will come off as greedy. I'm not saying YOU are greedy, just answering the question in general. Good luck
2 :
I don't think there is anything wrong with planning and throwing your own bridal shower. Go for it!!! Maybe you can recruit another friend or another family member to help you because depending on how many people you are having it could get to be a little crazy. So recruiting some help would be wise. A hen's night, aka bachlorette party is where your bridesmaids would take you out for a night on the town before your wedding. Usually to party hard and enjoy your last few nights of freedom before your married. A bridal shower is where you and your groom will register for gifts, and you invite family and friends to shower you with gifts for you and your groom to start your new lives together.
3 :
Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding! First, NO, you cannot host your own bridal shower. Second, there is no written rule that your maid of honor and/or your bridesmaids need to host your shower. Unfortunately, here in the U.S., it HAS become one of the duties of the maid of honor and the bridesmaids. Third, another person (an aunt?, a friend?, a cousin?, a co-worker?) can host a shower for you. You must have some other family. A hens night is equal to the bachelorette party here in the U.S. This is just a night to get all the girls together. It can be a low-key event or whatever you want to make it! Some go out to eat and then bar hopping after...but that is not mandatory. Some girls have a pajama party! I hope this helps!
4 :
I'm pretty sure the "hens night" is another term for the bachelorette party. I think. So, not the same as a bridal shower.
5 :
According to proper etiquette, a bride is not supposed to host her own bridal shower. If there is no one to throw it, too bad. You will not have a bridal shower.
6 :
There's no rule saying these things have to be in the 6 wks prior to the wedding. Talk to your friends about having a shower 8 wks before the wedding. A bridal shower is like a baby shower. A hens night is a bachelorette party. Talk to them about having a girl's night out before the friend leaves for France.
7 :
If you just want to do something quiet with your two closest friends then I don't see a problem with asking them to join you at a club / restaurant / whatever fora meal and a couple of drinks but that's about as far as I would take it. As for a bridal shower, probably best if somebody else organises it for you, otherwise it would be like you are saying "hi, I'm throwing myself a party a party and I want you to bring me a present" which would get some noses out of joint.
8 :
I put together my own bachelorette party (or hens party) and I see nothing wrong with that. I would never make or expect anyone to dish out money to throw me a party, so I did it myself. Don't listen to those who say it's tacky...it isn't. As for a shower, I made it very clear I didn't want one because I don't believe that just because you get married that should mean people should buy you things. That's just how I am. BUT if you really want a quiet night out with your two closest friends, I say wait to do it until they are available. It doesn't have to be a hens party for you to do that and you'll be happier if they are there with you.

No way to say for sure, but I say apply anyway. It won't hurt you and who knows, you may be able to get in. Like you said, the WGPA will most likely kill his chances. It's a shame, actually, since the rest of his resume is quite impressive. If you can pull off a killer essay, and get those great recommendations you listed, it just might be possible. BUT, don't be surprised if he gets rejected. For someone as bright as your "friend", a low GPA suggests that he's either lazy or is really not good at English, history, etc. (which I doubt). If only you can turn back time, right?
2 :
I'd say that he actually has a chance. Besides the GPA he has an amazing resume. But does he have a good reason for the low GPA? like did he take all extremely hard classes? If so, and with all those activites the GPA won't matter as much. He would need to write a really good essay. He should visit many times and have an interview. Also a low GPA signifies a true genius and they may see that. True geniuses don't pay attention in class but do really well on things such as SATs. So I'd say that he still has a chance and should apply.

I dont know but why isn't Harvard listed as an "amazing school"? Dont you have a guidance counselor you can ask about this? Most of the people on here aren't qualified to give you a right answer.
2 :
Your low GPA kills your chances for elite schools, and being Asian is equivalent to losing ~75 points on your SAT. You should aim for schools at the next level down from the elites. Consider schools such as: Colgate U U of Rochester Rose-Hulman Institute Bucknell U Georgia Tech Lehigh

Aside from your GPA, you should be good for Carnegie...If the reason to your GPA being low is due to a personal reason like family death or depression, explain that in your essay so the admission officers will understand, but hope for the best. Its not impossible to get in with your GPA, but it will be tough. Give it a try

The agreement allowed 12 deputies to be trained to screen the immigration status of people arrested in Mecklenburg, home to North Carolina's largest city, Charlotte. The 287(g) program, as it is known, gives local officers access to ICE's database of fingerprints and photographs, which Pendergraph and others say is the only reliable way to identify the immigration status of an arrested person. Since screening began May 1, Pendergraph said, his department has found that most of the immigrants who pass through his jail are here illegally. "So many illegal immigrant criminals have been identified through my 287(g) program, it is causing me a jail space problem," Pendergraph said. Pendergraph's department is one of only seven departments in five states with such agreements and access to ICE's database. Gaston County Sheriff Alan Cloninger told the panel his department received approval Thursday to join the program, but Pendergraph said many other law enforcement leaders who have tried repeatedly to participate in it tell him they have been turned down or ignored. An estimated 405,000 illegal immigrants live in North Carolina, McHenry said. Michael Lands, district attorney for Gaston County, said the federal government doesn't have enough agents to handle an illegal immigrant population of that size. "Ultimately, and I mean no disrespect, this is a federal government problem that you need to address," he told the panel. The government's approach to illegal immigrants, Lands said, has been "to wait until they commit a state crime and then determine if it's serious enough to deport them." Souder responded that federal, state and local governments will have to cooperate to improve the system. "Somehow we've got to figure out how to do this together," he said. The mother of a Gaston County teacher who died in a July 2005 hit-and-run crash in Brunswick County caused by an illegal immigrant pleaded with the panel for a solution. Scott Gardner was on vacation with his family when their car was struck by a truck driven by Ramiro Gallegos, who was intoxicated and had a history of drunken driving arrests. Wife Tina Gardner remains in a vegetative state at a nursing home, her mother-in-law Emily Moose said Friday. The couple's two young children are effectively orphaned. "I believe the cost of human life is too high to pay for cheap labor," Moose said, near tears. Gallegos was sentenced earlier this year to 14 to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of second-degree murder. "If you break the law to get here, you're not going to respect the law once you're here," McHenry said. That comment, plus a statement by Moose that "millions" of lives have been lost to illegal immigration and a complaint by Foxx that the media obsesses about the number of U.S. deaths in Iraq while saying little "about the people being killed by illegal immigrants every day," appeared to motivate Lands to interject. "I think it needs to be said - and you all know - illegals aren't the only ones out there committing crime," he said. "There's plenty of crime by American-born citizens."

Yeah, lol. As far as the last quote...hahahaha. I know their are people born and raised here that commit crime. There is no doubt about that, however, do we need the added extra from people who are not supposed to be here anyway!!! Oh, I see, lets accept crime from illegal immigrants because American legal citizens commit crime too. LOL That is like when a little kid is caught doing something naughty..."Mommy, bobby sneaked a cookie too." Well...now its justified!LOL LOL Bunch of freakin babies...no wonder we are in the state of affairs that we are!
2 :
Aren't you tired of the argument that American's commit crimes, too? Please! How lame! All that blither aside, the illegals have no business and no right to be here. End of discussion.

7 :
Yes, all people commit crimes. But people who are legal members of a society with a trail of records that help identify them tend to get caught when they do so they're less likely to try. And illeagal aliens committed a crime when they remained in the US illeagally, all of them wheather they shoot someone or rob someone or work hard and support a family, they're all in violation of the law.

Need Help with Civil War Questions

Need Help with Civil War Questions?
What were the major military turning points in the Civil War? Compare Army nurses effort and organization in the South to that of the North. Discuss "Cotton Diplomacy". How did Southerners perceive diplomacy as a war measure? Would a different policy by Britain and France have made any difference in the course of the Civil War? Why? Why not? Note: All questions are about the Civil War. I am a idiot when it comes to history, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Military turning points in the Civil War: the Union capture of Fort Donelson, TN; the Union Capture of New Orleans, LA; the Union capture of Vicksburg, MS; the Union capture of Chattanooga, TN; the Union capture of Atlanta, GA. You will have to compare and discuss, my impetus is to answer.
2 :
British or French intervention on the side of the South would have recognized the South as an Independent nation and sovereign nation at that. At the time Russia would not have wanted to see that happen as it assumed (correctly) that the UNITED states was a deterrent to British colonialism of the time and we would check Britain or France as per the Monroe Doctrine of the time...Although overtures were made to both countries at the time and neither would oblige the south, they couldn't, Britain had other problems in the world at the time and could not commit to a southern intervention and France was not militarily capable at the time and a response by either would have been the first world war.....very likely and who knows what response Russia would have had against British intervention? All out war? hard to say since it never happened but there was a great southern sympathy going on in GB at the time since the loss of cotton from the south caused 1/3 of the southern half of GB to go unemployed and nearly starve...just not enough to intervene as northern diplomacy was highly effective at the time!
3 :
Gettysburg was a huge turning point during the war it cost a huge amount of life totaling 53.000 but it proved how close the union came to losing the war on the 2 of July 1863 if it hadn't of been for Chamberlain and the twentieth Maine the South would of won the war. If Britain hadn't abolished slavery they would of joined up with the Confederacy and with the British fleet the war would gone a lot differetly not sure about France though.

Long Distance Relationship Problems

Long Distance Relationship Problems?
Hello, I have a very detailed question/topic... I am involved in a long distance relationship and I love her very very much! I'm a Canadian citizen (25 yrs) and my girlfriend is a French citizen (28 yrs). I don't speak french, she speaks really good English though. I met her a long time ago online back in 2001 and we've been dating for about a year and a half. We only get to see each other about 2 to 4 weeks per year which really tough! The lack of physical contact is very difficult and she really needs that, I do too of course but I have more patients than her I believe to wait for the next time to see each other. She is on the stressing out and feels like she wants to give up on me now because it is too hard to make this long distance relationship work. I keep telling her to be strong and not to worry things will be ok and we can make it. We are very happy together and we have shared many great moments together but us being apart is killing our relationship and it's very sad. :( I've gone to see her in July 2009, Sept. 2009, Dec. 2009/Jan 2010 for Christmas and New Years, and I was there again in Sept. 2010. She has come to see me in Oct. 2009 and she is coming to see me again Dec. 17, 2010/Jan. 2011 for Christmas and New Years this year. She feels that although we love each other very very much... when she goes back home to France our relationship will come to an end. I want to make any effort I can possible to keep the relationship alive. She is a student in France to become a nurse. She is in her first year of the three year course. So, she is stuck where she is for 3 years. Myself, I have no college or university education, only a high school diploma. I am willing to move to France to be with her. She says for me not to because I should go to college and take care of myself first. A friend of mine he suggested why don't I get a job to work at McDonalds or something like that and work there for a little like 6 months or so and then ask for a relocation to work at a McDonalds in France, that way I would be able to have a workers permit over there. I'm not sure how well that would work since anyone can get a job at McDonalds. The job relocation would help to get a long stay visa. I know that a nation would rather employ their citizens before they ever employ an immigrant based on skills and trade qualifications. I don't know what to do! I don't want to move on from her, she is a great person and a really lovely girl. She agrees if I were living with her in France that would be great but because I'm not there it's too hard. She has gone through moments like this before where she has doubts about our relationship and every time she has doubts I'm always there to reassure her and make her feel ok again, but this time I'm worried it could be over this time when she goes back to France in Jan. 2011. :( I think one of the problems in our long distance relationship is that we don't have a plan on what we are going to do in the future to do with our relationship. Thanks for reading!

wow. mostly all i can say. This seems complicated. as i dont want to be all over ur personal business and all i'd say that ur friends suggestion is fine but i wouldnt so that. Think about it. you've wasted your life at school to do what? work at mcdonalds? u should go to college in france DUH! Go to for example the univeristy of Lyon though i dont know if theres an english section. Search for english colleges in france and go there. apply to all of the colleges that would best suit you and help your relationship then choose between the colleges where you got accepted and see which would be better. Otherwise there's always your friends suggestion. But dont just think about her think also about YOU and YOUR future. What if this relationship didnt work out at the end? then you would have lost EVERTYHING. So i recommend you take my advice and: xxGood Luckxx
2 :
You're right. You definitely need a plan about how far you are taking the relationship, and since she is the one who is going to school I think you should be the one to accommodate her. Yes, find a job, get a transfer to France, and let her know what you're planning to do to keep the relationship alive. I think you have it figured out now you need to put the plan to action. Oh btw, I wouldn't settle for a job at McD's. find something that pays better, and something with better hours. Europe is a little more expensive than Canada.
3 :
Damn thats a hard situation my friend. I am also in a long distance relationship but luckily she is only an 8 hour flight away. I am able to visit her once a month. You are right, you both need to have a real talk about the future. That would be the first and most important step. Going to France will be a huge step though because you have to make sure you can support yourself and have a plan in place if things go wrong. Maybe apply for a working holiday visa. Those are usually easy to get for anyone up to 30 years of age and last for 1 year. During that year you can see if things are working out well there. Good luck.

In the bible it says that no man will live past 120 yrs old yet someone has is the bible FAKE or what

In the bible it says that no man will live past 120 yrs old yet someone has is the bible FAKE or what?
The oldest person ever whose age was authenticated, according to Guinness, was a woman named Jeanne Louise Calment, who lived to 122 years and 164 days. She was born in France on Feb. 21, 1875, and died at a nursing home in Arles in southern France on Aug. 4, 1997. According to the Bible, God promises every human being 120 years of life. This extraordinary promise is recorded in Genesis 6:3, which reads as follows: “And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh, yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.” Most of us have been led to believe what is written in Psalm 90:10, i.e., “The days of our years are three-score and ten...” (70 years). But this verse is a prayer of Moses, whereas in Genesis 6:3, God is speaking... Therefore, Genesis 6:3 exceeds Psalms 90:10 in terms of reference. This means that when God’s laws of eating and right living are obeyed, a human lifespan of 120 years is guaranteed...

listen to this i'll give you info you can live for ever buy immortality rings below
4 :
the bible is fake right down to the end time story in it since none of it can be proven to be factural outside of the bible and its not normal for some one to live past 60 in that day and age the bible was written in sorry
5 :
I am not familiar with that verse, please put it up along with the Bible it comes from. Peace!
6 :
Your question lacks proof, you say the Bible that no man will live past 120 yrs, but you have not provided proof that the bible says that.
7 :
It doesn't say that in the Bible. Apparently, you have been misinformed.
8 :
No Bible says so. That information about the Bible that you have is WRONG!!!
9 :
It did say no man...(just being humorous) The old rules and regulations were fulfilled by Jesus at the Cross. We are under Grace and if someone is blessed by long years upon the Earth it is a blessing of God. Grace is God's unmerited favor and we have done nothing to earn it - so we can't boast about it....(or we can't say we earned the blessing(s).)
10 :
I thought the Bible said 140, pal. Check again. Plus, they say biblical years are different than our invented years.
11 :
well it was a woman right? so no man did live past 120. i love loopholes.
12 :
This verse is NOT referencing the allotted time frame of human life span... it is talking about the length of time that God was allowing the people of Noah's day to change their sinful ways. God was giving people 120 years to turn from their sinful ways and repent.
13 :
Well, technically, Genesis 6:3 reads: "And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”" There were ppl who lived past this age: Sarah, Abraham's wife, died at age 127 Aaron died at 123 and Abraham was 175, etc. I think God's intent at Genesis 6:3 was to say, "There's no way I'm going to keep working on the same human beings for a thousand years!" So He set a guideline for the maximum human lifespan. Some people die sooner, a very few die later, like Calment and Sarah. By the time Psalm 90 was written, most folks lived to the age of 70, with a few reaching 80 (Psalm 90:10). RE: Your comment about God's writings vs. Moses' writings, pls remember that Moses was God's man -- all Moses' writings were inspired by God. Peace.
14 :
Er, the Bible is all about an invisible god being who created the universe in a week, and his son who died and then came back to life, and souls and living forever. Why in the world would you be bothered by a detail like this, when the whole thing is so clearly fictional?
15 :
I have my own opinions about the authenticity and value of the bible, which I won't spout here. But for your question, at the very least, it's very out-dated. Remember when it was written. Humans weren't living as long then. We've had technological advances in science and health, so people are living longer now.
16 :
The normal high lifespan will be 120 years. The average person will live to 70.
17 :
I never heard that before
18 :
if i were you, i wouldnt use the bible as fact...
19 :
The verse is from Genesis 6, "And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days..." (Genesis 6:3-4) But if you will notice the context, God was speaking to the pre-flood people, who were growing increasingly wicked. The context demands that God was speaking to the wicked people of the time. After the flood, many things changed. Even righteous Abraham, Isaac and Jacob lived longer than 120 years. The difference is in the purging of the earth by the flood.
20 :
The Bible is not a fake. Also, why did people live to be several hundred years?
21 :
There is no such thing as 'man'. We are all dirtbags and ribs.
22 :
My o'l good man....you actually believe the bible?Dun waste ur precious time on this...bible is fake right from the start...Its a wonder that there are still followers
23 :
To help out the question, three versions of that verse Genesis 6:3 (King James Version) And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. Genesis 6:3 (21st Century King James Version) And the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for he also is flesh; yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years." Genesis 6:3 (New International Version) Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years." and since "god" is infallible, he can't have "changed his mind" after the flood.
24 :
nothing is garanteed in live only death and hell if you do not know Yeshua God bless
25 :
Very interesting question indeed - to all the people that asked for the reference etc - read the question again. Genesis 6 verse: "And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also [is] flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years." Psalm 90 verse: "The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away" I can't comment on the Guiness lady that lived to be 122 because I couldn't find it. I don't think the Genesis verse says explicitly that no one can live longer than 120 years - I mean if you eat perfect etc and all that jazz, would you just drop dead at 120? Let me know if you get a good answer though - I'm interested.
26 :
Gen 6:3 is not saying that this is how many years that one has to live, but what it is saying is that God gave the people of the earth an amazing 120 years to change their wicked ways or he would destroy the earth with a flood. well, i guess in their 120 years they didnt change their ways. In Psalm 90:10 - it is only trying to convey that our life is only 70 years, 80 perhaps but in the scope of eternity this is nothing more that a vapor. the author only wants to demonstarte that our lfetime is very very short. You have misintrepeted what you read
27 :
hmmm I disagree that the Bible says that man was promised a certain amount of years. And using your own references: The 6th Chapter of Genesis is the account of the events just before the flood. God was speaking of man in general, not every man, and how long he was going to tolerate those people doing what they were doing. And by reading the context of the scripture in Psalms, even the WHOLE of the same verse, you would find that the Psalmist was taking a look around at people and life in general and realizing that man only lives a certain amount of time and his life is full of trouble during that time - it says "if by reason of strength." Some humans live longer than others, because of health reasons, but that doesnt mean that that is how long God intended man to live. Ecclesiastes tells us that he put eternity into their heart.
28 :
The Bible was written when a 50-year-old was considered ancient, especially since the average lifespan was about 40 at most. In Biblical times, a 120-year lifespan was an immense amount of time. I'd like a lifespan more like Methusalah was reported to have had, nearly 1000 years (this is also in Genesis, I think).
29 :
Nothing is impossible for God. Consider her exceptionally blessed. It does not prove the Bible wrong, because that there is the cut-off point for living a natural life. She probably had medicines, special care, etc., that prolonged her life. She probably also lived a very godly life, and was rewarded as such. I mean, look at Aaron (Moses' brother) who lived to be 123, and Sarah (wife of Abraham), who died at 127. It doesn't specifically say "Man shall live 120 years to the day, and no more" (although that's how long Moses lived...)... but is written as a general 'rule-of-thumb' fact (ie just because the lifespan of a dog is 14 years, doesn't mean dogs don't sometimes live 15 or even 16 years, or as little as 10). Those with exceedingly long lives are considered as being blessed by God. To the person above me: "And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died." - Gen. 5:27
30 :
Hey ,how are you? the bible have some truth in it however it's not the definite. Some people don't have the understanding of what they are reading so it bring about a question. You live past 120 years only if you have the proper understanding of self and eat according to the universe knowledge. Also the bible have hints and clues about life and the time however that once again take knowledge & understanding. If you want more understandinng go to www.UNOI.org It helps

Just one of many contradictions in the bible. There are some people mentioned in the bible who are supposed to have lived for hundreds of years. The christians have seen the contradictions before and it can be quite amusing listening to them trying to explain why they are not contradictory.
10 :
i am not sure how to interpret that, ut if you read further noah and a lot of people after that lived very long ages. they lived way longer that 120 years. maybe it meant that on the average people will not live that long.
11 :
this is yet another reason why i am an atheist. the bible has faults, as does everything in life, so why do people make such a big deal out of following everything it says?
12 :
Read it in context. That applied only to the Nephilim - The hybrid children of man and angels. The Bible then immediately speaks of Noah who lived, what, 450 years? You people read one verse and think you're smart. You're embarassing yourself.

Caribbean or European vacation

Caribbean or European vacation ?
My husband and I want to take a vacation after I graduate from nursing school next summer. We both want to go to the Caribbean but also on a tour of Europe (England, France, Germany, Italy, etc.). Only 1 vacation though. We have two daughters, age 14 and 15. Based on your experiences, which vacation do you think they would enjoy more ? Caribbean or Europe ?

If you are taking your 14 and 15 year olds along, I would highly suggest the Caribbean. I have been to both places more than once, and I found the European adventure to be much more worthwhile when I was older, because I could appreciate the culture more.

4 :
I choose Caribbean..You and your family will enjoy the beautiful beaches there.
5 :
14 and 15 years olds would have much more fun in the caribbean. The islands are beautiful, so much to see and do. Just the beauty and warmth of the ocean and beaches alone is worth it. Europe is old, and very expensive, and the people are rude, especially France , Paris is dirty, the washroom facility's stink. Atlantis is so beautiful and fun.

What is the most stupid thing You said to a girl

What is the most stupid thing You said to a girl?
For me is must be this summer when I was in Nice, France. Me and my pal was sitting on the balcony nursing our beers when this absolute fox leaned out the window across the court yard and asked: "Do any of You knows anything about computers and internet?" "Yes I do" I answered "I just installed Internet in my flat, but I can't connect to the server, I got the password and everything but it doesn't seem to work" Anyone of sound mind would here offer to come over and help her, but me in my utter stupidity gave the most logical answer I could come up with "Have You checked if Caps Lock is pressed down?" I never saw her again!

And thats about all i have so far. I know i have a very small chance of getting into either of the schools but i will try anyways. Nope I'm sorry. Having a low GPA and a high SAT score just shows that you're a "lazy" student to those colleges. Maybe try for like Penn State or Syracuse first and see about transferring from there to Carnegie Mellon or Cornell. You should raise your GPA Mine please?: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110320134325AA5kUN4
2 :
It's definitely a long shot with that GPA. A kickass essay and recommendation from whoever's supervising you on that research project might help, though. Also, what's the trend with your grades? If they got stronger as you went along, that'll help...though, obviously, not as much as if you'd put in the effort from the start.
3 :
Cornell is a grade college!

is there a such doctor named patrick cole in london who is doing some direct hiring?
his hiring caregiver, nurses and hotel employee for his hospital and hotel in LONDON, PARIS and FRANCE

Doctors cannot do direct hiring. All hiring in the UK is done through the NHS, but they are not hiring nurses from outside the EU. And hotel workers cannot be sponsored - they are not on the skills shortage list. Doctors do not own hospitals AND hotels. If this is an internet job offer, it's a scam that will steal your money. DO NOT respond or send any passport or banking information. Patrick Cole is prolific a Nigerian scammer. Here is pretends he works for a bank in the UK http://fraudwatchers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=21610 Here he says he is hiring for a textile company http://jobscams.blogspot.com/2007_01_04_archive.html Here is says he works for a Nigerian bank http://419.bittenus.com/more/patrickcole.htm Here he's supposedly dead http://www.419baiter.com/_scam_emails/08-08g/scam-email-36279.html Here he's linked to a scam involving American soldiers http://www.romancescam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=89186 Here he says he works for a fake oil company http://sg.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080102085103AAcHFEW Here he says he works for RBOS http://thescambaiter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12832 Delete any messages and block his address. If you sent passport information, call your police to report it as they may commit identity fraud with your details. If you gave any banking information, call your bank right away before they can withdraw any funds from your account.

So if we have a single payor system, who pays the bills? The government

So if we have a single payor system, who pays the bills? The government?
So the government would get to decide what procedures and drugs to cover and at what cost? They'd decide doctor and nurse pay? How is this a good thing for the ones providing the services? France is #1 in healthcare - and they have a kind of PPO program with a variety of reimbursers. They pay taxes out the wazoo for it, but the doctors and patients have more choice, as opposed to the British version....

We also have to remember that a lot of us current pay out the wazoo out our pocket for health care. What we pay from our payroll would simply turn over to gov't.
2 :
Just like in France, the taxpayers would pay for it. Now here's a thought - for 85% of Americans, a good portion of their medical insurance is an untaxed benefit at work. If we went to a national health care, which would dramatically increase our taxes, do you think your employer would hand over the money he previously spent on medical benefits? Or just add it to his bottom line?
3 :
[Single-payer national health insurance is a system in which a single public or quasi-public agency organizes health financing, but delivery of care remains largely private. Currently, the U.S. health care system is outrageously expensive, yet inadequate. Despite spending more than twice as much as the rest of the industrialized nations ($7,129 per capita), the United States performs poorly in comparison on major health indicators such as life expectancy, infant mortality and immunization rates. Moreover, the other advanced nations provide comprehensive coverage to their entire populations, while the U.S. leaves 46 million completely uninsured and millions more inadequately covered. The reason we spend more and get less than the rest of the world is because we have a patchwork system of for-profit payers. Private insurers necessarily waste health dollars on things that have nothing to do with care: overhead, underwriting, billing, sales and marketing departments as well as huge profits and exorbitant executive pay. Doctors and hospitals must maintain costly administrative staffs to deal with the bureaucracy. Combined, this needless administration consumes one-third (31 percent) of Americans’ health dollars. Single-payer financing is the only way to recapture this wasted money. The potential savings on paperwork, more than $350 billion per year, are enough to provide comprehensive coverage to everyone without paying any more than we already do. Under a single-payer system, all Americans would be covered for all medically necessary services, including: doctor, hospital, long-term care, mental health, dental, vision, prescription drug and medical supply costs. Patients would regain free choice of doctor and hospital, and doctors would regain autonomy over patient care. Physicians would be paid fee-for-service according to a negotiated formulary or receive salary from a hospital or nonprofit HMO / group practice. Hospitals would receive a global budget for operating expenses. Health facilities and expensive equipment purchases would be managed by regional health planning boards. A single-payer system would be financed by eliminating private insurers and recapturing their administrative waste. Modest new taxes would replace premiums and out-of-pocket payments currently paid by individuals and business. Costs would be controlled through negotiated fees, global budgeting and bulk purchasing.]
4 :
With as much money as insurance costs, if they raised taxes some and stopped taking insurance out of my paycheck, I'd probably come out ahead.
5 :
To answer your question; In the purposed single payer system the Democrats want, the government would pay the bills and decide who gets procedures and drugs. It is not a good thing for those providing the services because they are forced to accept what the government pays them, Look to the doctor shortage to our north in Canada now needing foreign doctors to cover their socialized health care. In France the current tax rate is 52.75% of income for taxes, that is the second highest tax rate in the world. I am sure people could not live on what is left of your paycheck after the Government takes their half. http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2006/08/28/doctor-shortage.html
6 :
Hopefully, the wealthiest 5%..
7 :
The government is already in the business of managing vast and complex programs, and sets the pay rates for all sorts of professionals in its employ, including a number of doctors and nurses, as well as air marshals, national park rangers, and the receptionist at the FBI. As far as I'm concerned, it could be a single-payer or a combination. I'm not fixated on any one model. I just refuse to believe that we Americans cannot conceive and execute a system that covers all of our citizens with at least adequate baseline services. I was raised to believe that we can do anything.

Where should I study abroad

Where should I study abroad?
I'm a senior ih high school and I'm planning on study abroad sometime during my junior of senior year in college. But I'm torn between France and Japan. Which one should I go to? P.S: I'm going to major in Nursing with a minor in a foreign language(either French or Japanese, depending on which country I end up studying in).

I think Japan would be a lot more culturally different, if you want to try something reallyreally new. Also, most people in France speak English; you'll be A LOT more immersed in the language in Japan. On the other hand, if you want somewhere more comfortable and familiar, I guess you should choose France. I would also check out the quality of the specific schools you would be going to.
3 :
I would say Italy. Even though that is totally unrelated to your major. I just got back from there. Best time of my life. To answer your question: France. Almost everyone I know who has been there absolutely loves it. As for Japan, the Japanese culture is so different than ours, it would be difficult to make that transformation comfortably. My friend just got back from China and hated it. He was there for 6 weeks and although he had a good time, he said he couldn't wait to drop his Chinese and pursue his French major without distraction. p.s. if you go to France you can take a weekend trip to Italy. DO IT! Go to Siena. Best city in the world. Good luck.
4 :
France.
5 :
First, where are you from and what are you looking for? If you want a big cultural change and are ready to face it, then go for Japan. Otherwise, France is a wise choice if you want to be sure of your food, have a relatively small cultural change, pretty easy integration. Personally I'd choose France, but it's really your choice you can ask other people their opinion but you are the one who has to take the final decision. Both will be interesting, very different, whatever you choose you will enjoy yourself. Do you like sushi or baguette?
6 :
I would say Japan would be of far more value to you in learning how to adapt to new cultures and in language usage. However, if you plan on taking your medical career in the direction of the U.N., I'd go with France, because for some reason, they still use French there (at the UN).
7 :
Have you taken any French or Japanese yet? I would see which language/culture you are more attuned to, and which language you take to. That should point you in the right direction. If you are majoring in Nursing, be advised that you probably won't finish your BA in four years, if you spend a year abroad. Not to discourage you, though! It will be a great experience for you, and wonderful to gain fluency in another language!
8 :
I can tell you that I hated every moment I spent in Paris. I would not recommend it to anyone. If you are interested in studying in France, chose a program in the Midi. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me.
9 :
Japan
10 :
You will almost certainly suffer 'culture shock' in a country like Japan. I'm not trying to put anyone down here, but Japanese culture is not kind to outsiders. Particularly when western values are used as the benchmark. I guess that you are of African decent, if I'm right, many Asian cultures can seem quite offensive toward people your skin colour. In Thailand, for example, the word 'Negro' is still used to describe people of African origin. I think you'd be wise to try France, unless you are a very resilient person and really think you could make a go of dealing with life in Japan. Good luck!

nurse / kinesitherapist What to choose

nurse / kinesitherapist What to choose?
I have a university training that is unfortunately "not in demand" in France where my husband was transferred for 5 years. I was offered training as a kinesitherapist (3 years) and that would be "in demand" and allow me to have a job. On the other hand I still have the option of finishing nursing, which however is not recognized in France and would therefore require also 3 years of training. I did 2 years of nursing training a few years ago but I gave it up after I got married. So now the question is what do I choose? nursing or kinesitherapy? Is kinesitherapy going to be "in demand" in northern US, where we will end up when my husband's transfer is over?

Concentrate in Nursing, there are more places in the world that demands this career..
2 :
I would go with kinesiology. In the US, you could enter the physical therapy field (very lucrative).
